Do a Little Dance

Each of the elementary grade levels did a dance routine.  Each a different dance from a different decade.  The fourth grade was Swing.  Grant was way in the back but boy could he swing it.

Let it snow

A crazy turn of event here on the Korean Peninsula. After a week of warm (highs between 5-10 Celsius ) weather and rain that reminds me of Portland, we had some seriously cold and wet weather come in yesterday. So today is officially the third snow day for Chadwick International.




It's a good thing Grant and I spent Saturday on the Korean slopes. Not we are geared up for some sledding.


Arrived early and the slopes weren't even open yet.

4C camp day

Grants teacher Ginger Phillips hosted the 4C camp day. We pulled some tents together, the kids brought snacks and class was held in the playground all day. The weather cooperated so it was a nice sunny fall day.

After lunch was treat time, which of course was related to a lesson. How long does it take to toast a marshmallow?


95% of the kids hadn't toasted a marshmallow over a fire. When the marshmallow started to droop they asked, "what do I do with it?" The answer I gave was eat it. They thought I was kidding.
It was a fun day had by all. Now it's time to break camp, the worst part of every camping trip. At least it's not raining.

Bike Day

Last Friday there was a huge event at the Chadwick International where 1200 international teachers from all over Korea were visiting the school.  While the adults were working the kids were playing.

Grant, and the rest of his buds whom have parents that work for the school, all got together at Kid's Club.  This was a special Kid's Club because our buddy John put on a bicycle training class.  They got to do some really cool stuff.  The club coordinator, Cathy West, put together a great video.  Follow this link and see the Dude in action.

Blog delays

Sorry for the recent delay of any postings.  The applications on the iPhone and iPad have crashed and I'm not in front of the computer as much.  Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Below is a web link I found at work.  It is all in Korean but has much better satellite views of Korea.  When you get there type in "songdo-dong" in the upper blue search box.  The island off the west coast has two bridges off of it and an airport.  Follow the bridge on the lower right labeled the 110.  Follow it to the main land and just south of where the bridge connects, and east of the lagoon looking thing is a blue school icon.  Don't zoom to close or it goes away, but the font is still blue.  (looks like a hat)  That is Chadwick.

For a satellite view go to top right of map.  Just above the map in a gray bar there are three Korean buttons. The one that looks like
스캉ㅣ뷰 , in the middle is the one you want. When the page first comes up a pop-up may join.  Close it and you will be at the map.

Kelly's Class

So these pictures are from Kelly.  She wanted you all to see what a great group of kids she has.

Yes, she only has 15 in her class.  

Back to school night

Wow, is back to school night a bit more involved here.  It lasted two hours and we met with Grant's 3rd grade teacher Mr. Dumelie, who is originally from Canada and has been teaching in California for the past few years.  We then went and met with all the specialist.

He has one or two of the above specials every day.
His Korean class is just for those third graders who aren't native to Korea.  There are only three boys in his class  and his teacher is great.  Here was one of his first projects, to write his name in Korean.

First Day of School

Hooray, well I guess that depends on who you are.....

Today was the first day of school for Grant at Chadwick International.  It was also Kelly's first day with her new students, all 15 of them.

So after school today, which was a half day and over at noon, Grant and I went out for a lunch of his choice.  We made it to a restraunt in Dream City that we had no idea what it was called.  Had to take our shoes off, sit on the floor and no one spoke English.  Ordered bolgogi (not sure spelled right) and we loved it.

 The elementary school takes up just a small chunk of  the 17 acres the entire campus sits on.  The high school, middle school and sport fields take up the rest.
