Soccer Day

It has been a crazy week.
Yesterday the skies cleared up and the sun was out.  Had a meeting downtown and had a nice view of the tallest towers in China.

After school we went out for a nice birthday dinner at Grant's favorite place, Din Tai Fung.  We even brought our own homemade mini cake.  He must be getting older, it was hard to blow out those fancy sparkling candles.

Today is Soccer Day.  The skies are clear, the air pollution is way down and there is a nice breeze here on the Pudong campus.  The boys are ready to play, I think.

When the school is half full

Long story short...
There is a huge safety summit happening in Shanghai today and tomorrow and there are many traffic restrictions and road closures.  We have school today but no buses so students had to get here on their own.  Currently the Pudong campus is about 50% full.  Grant's class had about five kids in it and Kelly had three.
So what else is there to do but go out and play.

No school tomorrow.  Yeah!!!!

Bugs and fishes

Tried to post a while ago and wouldn't work. We will try again.

Last day of the spring vacation and we headed off to the bug market. Why???? Why not. Sounded like a cool place to go. Turns out is was across the street from the Dongtai Lu antique market. The market had all sorts of cool old stuff.


After the antiques we made it to the bug market. Have your choice of turtles. Too small to eat but perfect for aquariums and ponds.


Or crickets for your fighting cricket tournament. All of these little guys were moving around to impress perspective new owners. You too could own one for 35RMB, about $5.



It was a good afternoon and nice to see a new part of Shanghai. We will definitely go back.

Some things happening

Our recent trip back to visit friends in South Korea. What a great three day weekend.


Back in Mater. Yep we were able to fit 9 for the trip to bowling.


Watson going to visit a kindergarten class and talk about police dogs. Well I talked and he just laid on the floor and chewed his kong.


Back on the climbing wall. This one is outside and a bit more of a challenge than the Chadwick wall.



It was moon walk and mohawk day at school. It was a fund raiser for our solar panel project and we went for a Guinness book of world record for the most people doing the moon walk at one time. The boys are looking good in their new hair dos.


Watson went to participate in the event, even did some backward heeling. After the walk he only got a little bit of attention.

Angkor Wat

The building is all done and today was our day to check out the sites. It was damn hot but we hopped in a bus and headed to see one of the 7 wonders of the world, Angkor Wat.

Pretty impressive that it only took them 37 years to build.

The height and amount of materials they moved from the mountains 100km away was incredible.





You may have to read upside down, but it made us chuckle, a little bit of home.



Then off to a couple other impressive places around Angkor Wat


50 different columns with 4 faces on each.


This is the one Grant was waiting for, the temple from Tomb Raider.

Good trip, but very tired. Heading home tomorrow morning.

School visit

Today was day four of work on the house. But before going to the work site we stopped by a local elementary school to play with some kids.

















One of our tasks was to teach the kids how to brush their teeth and wash their hands. Many of them don't have tooth brushes so we brought some with us.

The first grade glass had 60 students, sitting 3 to a desk.











Back at the worksite it was more mortar and painting.
