Oregon

Mother nature apparently wanted us to remember a little bit of Portland. It started raining last night and hasn't stopped. Plus the wind has picked up and it's in the low 40s. And if you were wondering the answer is yes, Koreans drive even worse in the rain.

A great beginning of a week

Another great day for Grant. The first book fair of the year at Chadwick began today. This would be one of the many projects I work on around here. I'm sure we will be back many times throughout the week since Grant has been craving new books.

Grant is in Heaven

After a little road trip to the east coast this weekend with our good friends John, Jessica, and baby Finn, we ventured to Waterpia. Grant was excited to try out this large indoor/outdoor water park and all it's amenities.

This is Sokcho Beach on the northern east coast of S. Korea.

Grant has found nirvana! Waterpia contained slides, wave pools, fountains, spas (okay, that part was for Kelly), a lazy river, and so much more. He loved it!

Another new place

We have made it to Sokcho today. Three hour drive across the country to the east coast. Here we are on the Sea of Japan. The first real surf we have seen. And blue water.

Grant is famous

Grant's hair has apparently attracted some attention.  His photograph has been in the Korean Times, a Chadwick International brochure, and the Lemon Tree magazine which is a family magazine.

Words can't describe what these look like in person but they are all paper lanterns.

Gyeongbokgung Palace

While the girls went shopping John Grant Finn and I went to visit Gyeongbokgung Palace. Pretty cool place.

Real question is who is more handsome. The boys, or the rock?

A Job

I gave myself until November 1st to get a job and I just barely made it. As of Oct 31st I have been contracted by Chadwick International as a "School Safety Consultant".
A couple of months ago I redesigned the previous fire evacuation plan. Not to talk harshly about anyone but you know me, it was shit !! No real routes that had been researched, zero staff training and no plan. 40 hours of work and I had the kids dialed in. During our first drill I had everyone out of the building in under four minutes. So now I am following up with the needed additions and creating plans for the middle and high school facility.
I've all been sucked into some of the risk management work that hasn't been done.
Needless to say no more laying around on the couch with Watson and eating kimchi.
I'll be working on contract from school break to school break. In order to work as a consultant I had to change my visa status back to a regular tourist so I can only stay 90 days at a shot. We went to Japan for our anniversary and Singapore & the Philippines here we come for Christmas.

Almost the worst cab ever

Went out with the boys tonight. Subway and bus stop running about midnight, which we knew, so grabbed a cab to get home. It was about a 40 min ride for the three out of five that headed home early. Probably should have stayed longer. The cabbie first said "no way" when we asked to go to Songdo. He rolled forward a bit and decided he was running low on fares and stopped to say he changed his mind. Wish he hadn't. He was one of those drivers that "pulsated" the accelerator the entire way. Ung, ugh, ugh is what it felt like for 40 min. I'm more nauseous now in the cab than I would be hungover on the high seas crossing from Curacua to Bonaire.
When will it stop 😖

My first attempt at baking here in Korea...I may have a strange ass oven, but I am still able to make Nana LO's yummy zucchini bread. So good!

Sunday trip to Seoul #2

Just another couple of shots from our trip to Seoul. We met up with Sharon again, and her niece. They gave us some great insight on the Korean culture and the tasty treats around the market area.
