Summer School

While the boys have been "busy" with their summer camp by going to the beach and building forts... I have been fulfilling my educational duties by inspiring young minds. (-: The classroom of 20 first graders, teaching partner Tamarisk Low (from new Zealand), and I are having a great time as we spend the sunny Korean days in school. Here's a glimpse into our first couple of weeks....

A boat ride in the middle of Central park as we were studying water.

Testing balloon rockets when we were learning about gravity.

Bottle rockets! The kids created and "shot" their own rockets while learning about space then measured the distances of flight. Amazing what seven year olds can do with a bottle of water, a cork, and a bike pump! (-:

Ahhhh....spelling. We gotta learn how to spell. Making words with tiles is a lot more fun than writing things 10 times in a row however.

My teaching partner, Tamarisk, and I. Oh yes...we work really hard. It's a tough job this summer school thing, but someone's gotta do it! (-;

Finished my first year!

It's official...I made it through my first year of teaching here in Korea! My class and I celebrated the end of school this week like we do everything else here in Korea....BIG!

My classroom moms prepared their version of a snack. I call it a feast....

What a great group. It's been a wonderful year. (-:

They finished the day with beautiful flowers...I was spoiled.

Thank you 1A moms and kids. Xoxo

Day three of summer school

We took the 4th and 5th grade sport camp kids to the beach today. It was about 80 degrees and the beach was empty when we arrived at 10:15

Took the kids for a hike

And then they played in the sand, collecting little critters and making pools for them to swim in.

The curly hair is still easy to pick out.

Grant's Class picnic

Wow, what a cool place in Korea. Grant's class had their end of year picnic Sunday at a very cool "park" as they call it. We rented the place for 300,000 won for the day, about $255, and had it all to our selves. You can rent it also over night and there are three houses that you stay in. It was a nice change from the concrete and high rise apartment buildings.
There was lots for the kids to do.

And the food, mmmm

Now hold your horses, check out those boots.

Dude even went for a ride

Korea Memorial Day

It's Wednesday and no school due to the holiday. Went with a group to a water park on the north side of the airport island on the Yellow Sea.
As with all holidays it was pretty busy and parking was a challenge. But when in Korea, park a the Koreans do.

Oops. That's gonna hurt

So when you have an 85 pound German Shepard out at the park and you are throwing the frisbee back and forth you need to make sure and let them catch it once or twice. If not they take matters into their own hands. ( okay maybe my hand into their mouth)
I zigged when I should have zagged. Ouch

Now I know what some bad guys feel like.

It gave me an excuse to have someone help me
make home made perogies for dinner.

New food

Found a Mexican place close to home, finally. Not top notch but boy is it close enough for now. Grant's favorite part was they have root beer, and floats.

That's a big float
